Blackmagic’s new camera has been revealed the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K is an updated version of it’s incredibly popular Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro.
It’s a first for Blackmagic offering a Full Frame 6K image sensor with a new L-Mount, the ability to record 3:2 Open Gate on to CFexpress Type B media and recording via USB-C to external SSDs is still supported. This gives users a great new media option as Type B cards are widely available and are much cheaper than CFast cards.
The camera can record BRAW in 6K full-frame 3:2 at up to 36 fps or 6K 2.4:1 at up to 60fps.
Slow motion of up to 120 fps is available in a cropped FullHD recording. It’s now possible to generate 1080p H.264 real-time proxy files along with the Blackmagic RAW originals, however Apple ProRes is no longer supported.
The move to the L-mount will give shooters access to modern L-mount lenses, but also the ability to easily adapt a wide range of lenses due to the short flange distance of the mount. If you’re already invested in EF mount lenses from previous Blackmagic cameras these will be simple to use with the Cinema Camera 6K.
Overall it’s not a revolutionary leap from Blackmagic, however there are some great improvements here to an already very capable line of cameras. Thinking of picking up the new camera or anything else from Blackmagic? Get in touch today to place your order.
